Glycyrrhiza Glabra is cultivated in the northern and southern parts of the India. It needs acid, neutral and basic soils and can be easily grown in the semi-shade or a place with no shade. It needs moist soil to grow. Glycyrrhiza glabra has the capability to stand against the strong winds but it can't tolerate maritime exposure. It has been characterized as the tonic, Diuretic, demulcent, expectorant, emmenagogue and laxative. Due to it characteristics it has been used in cough, catarrhal infections and has been found useful in case of irritating conditions of mucous membrane of urinary organs. It roots are also used for for curing the herpes, eczema and shingles.
