Mucuna Pruriens has been characterized as the tropical legume which has white, lavender, purple flowers. The seed pods are about 10 cm long and have loose orange hairs as their covering shell. Due to the presence of chemical compounds like protein, mucunain, serotonin, it causes itching problem with skin whenever a person comes in contact of it. It has the shiny, black or brown drift seeds and the dry weight of seeds is calculated to be 55 to 85 g/100 seeds. Seeds have the characteristic nature of astringent, laxative, anthelmentic, alexipharmic and tonic. Mucuna pruriens roots are bitter, sweet thermogenic emollient, stimulant, purgative in nature. Leaves are put to be used in cephalagia and general debility.
